Apple computers – Windows software

How to install Windows onto your Mac

You will need to:

  • Download Windows 10 and get a Windows 10 license key
  • Install virtualization software – such as Mac Parallels or Mac Bootcamp

Mac Parallels software allows the user to have access to both operating systems at the same time. Parallels is not a free software package.
Mac Bootcamp software allows the user to select Mac OS X or Windows when turning the Mac on. To change OS, the computer must be restarted. This is free software, but installation will require some technical knowledge and a few hours.

Here is some additional detail to help select the best approach for you.

Support

uBreakiFix in Oxford and other computer companies can install Microsoft Windows onto a Mac for a minimal fee. They will need the Windows license key. The School of Engineering IT office cannot install virtualization software for students due to time constraints.
