Dr. David Silverstein Joins School of Engineering as Chair of Chemical Engineering
The School of Engineering is thrilled to announce the appointment of Dr. David Silverstein as the Chair of the Chemical Engineering Department. Dr. Silverstein’s appointment marks a significant milestone in our commitment to academic excellence and innovation in engineering education.
Dr. Silverstein brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role, having served the University of Kentucky, College of Engineering in Paducah, Kentucky since July 1999. His tenure at UK includes roles such as PJC Engineering Professor, Professor of Chemical & Materials Engineering, and Director of Paducah Extended Campus Programs, showcasing a profound dedication to the growth and development of engineering education.
Throughout his career, Dr. Silverstein has focused on areas critical to the evolution of learning in engineering, such as peer learning, technology-enhanced learning, and educational software tailored to diverse student learning styles. His research and administrative skills have significantly contributed to academic and operational excellence, managing substantial budgets and leading initiatives that replicate university offerings at satellite campuses.
In his new role, Dr. Silverstein aims to enhance the department’s national reputation, envisioning it as a top choice for chemical engineering students in the Southeast. His approach includes integrating innovative educational technologies and simulation-based learning, which aligns with our university’s focus on student-centric academic programs.

He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience as an administrator and as a national leader in chemical engineering education.
