Research interests

Dr. Mullen specializes in finite element-based simulation of damage in structural systems and risk and resilience index based plans for multi-hazard events affecting regions, communities, and interconnected essential facilities such as bridge networks and building clusters. Specific areas of interest include:

  • Steel frame buildings
  • Reinforced and prestressed concrete bridges
  • Earthquake, blast, and fire loadings
  • Beam-column dynamics and instability
  • Fragility curve based risk assessment
  • Objective resilience of bridge systems
