The University of Mississippi School of Engineering is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Hamid Bahrami as the Chair of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. Bahrami brings with him a wealth of experience and a distinguished career in electrical and computer engineering, most recently serving as Professor at The University of Akron in Ohio.
“I am excited to contribute to the School of Engineering’s mission of providing high-quality education and cutting-edge research,” Bahrami remarked. “I have been familiar with Ole Miss Engineering since the beginning of my career, and I think the Electrical and Computer Engineering department is a perfect fit for my expertise.”
Dr. Bahrami has held significant leadership positions, including serving as the Associate Chair for Graduate Studies at The University of Akron’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering for seven years. In addition, Bahrami founded and directed the Wireless Communications Laboratory at The University of Akron for fifteen years. Under his leadership, the lab has become a nationally recognized and highly respected research program.
Bahrami’s research interests span a wide range of topics within electrical and computer engineering, including wireless communications, signal processing, data analytics, cyber-physical systems, and cybersecurity. His pioneering work has established him as a leader in his field, earning him prestigious roles such as Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Communications and Executive Editor for the Transactions on Emerging Telecommunications Technologies.
“We are so excited to have Dr. Bahrami join our leadership team in the School of Engineering,” remarked Dean Viola L Davis. “He is an experienced administrator and a leader in the field of wireless communications. His active research projects in various areas including advanced manufacturing and machine learning will expand upon existing research efforts in the department. We look forward to Dr. Bahrami implementing his vision for the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering.”
In his role as Chair, Bahrami aims to foster a high level of research activity within the department. He plans to build on the existing strengths of the department and enhance its research and degree programs. “My vision is to ensure that our department continues to offer excellent undergraduate and graduate programs while also expanding our research endeavors and scholarly activities. I also hope to broaden our outreach by engaging with the local community and industry in meaningful ways and seek opportunities to contribute to the economy and development of the region,” he added.
