John Cleveland (Civil Engineering)

John R. Cleveland is the Central Region and National Oil & Gas Manager for ExxonMobil's United States lubricants business unit. In this role, he provides leadership and direction to a highly-skilled group of field managers tasked with deploying the Mobil branded lubricants business strategies.

After beginning his career in 1989 as a Project Engineer, John moved through a series of commercial roles including sales and business development. In 1997, he moved into a manufacturing leadership role manufacturing and packaging automotive & industrial lubricants including the company’s flagship synthetic product line. In 2000, John began a series of marketing leadership roles including managing the marketing teams responsible for automotive lubricants. In 2003, John moved into sequential roles leading international product integrity teams. In 2005, he commenced a two year commercial role in ExxonMobil’s base oil division negotiating national and international supply agreements supporting the finished lubricants manufacturing business. Effective 1 August 2006, John transferred to the supply chain strategy group where he led the design and implementation of the Americas supply chain network. Prior to his current assignment, John held the position of America’s Heavy Fuel Oil Trader where he was responsible for a $4Billion portfolio trading the “bottom of the barrel”. He was appointed to his current position on January 1, 2017.

John received a BS in Civil Engineering from the University of Mississippi and additional leadership training at The Thunderbird School of Global Management.
