EE Department News Bytes (Spring 2007)

  • Dr. Alexander Yakovlev, Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering, received the Valued Service Award at the 2007 Applied Computational Electromagnetics Society (ACES) Conference held in Verona, Italy for his service as the Assistant Editor-in-Chief of the ACES Journal.

  • Dr. Atef Elsherbeni, Professor of Electrical Engineering, served as the Technical Program Chair for the ACES 2007 Conference held recently in Verona, Italy.

  • Dr. Atef Elsherbeni conducted a short course on “The Iterative Multi-Region Technique for Large Scale EM Problems” at the ACES 2007 Conference held in Verona, Italy.

  • Dr. Ahmed Kishk, Professor of Electrical Engineering, presented a short course entitled “Dielectric Resonator Antennas, Theory, and Design” at two recent international conferences: the IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagations held in Albuquerque, New Mexico in July 2006 and the European Antennas and Propagation Conference held in Nice, France in November 2006.

  • Dr. Ahmed Kishk presented an invited lecture entitled “Design of Wideband Dielectric Resonator Antenna Arrays for Waveguide-Based Spatial Power Combining” in November 2006 at the City University of Hong Kong and at Macau University.

  • A new RFID research group has been established in the EE Department (Drs. Elsherbeni, Kishk, Yang, and Kajfez). The first funding for the group was provided by Cytec Corporation in Jackson, Mississippi.

  • Prof. George Hanson of the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee recently visited the EE department and presented a graduate seminar on “Electromagnetics of Planar and Cylindrical Graphene.”
