  • Mr. Martye Hickman, Supervisor of Electrical Engineering Shops, was selected to receive the 2008 School of Engineering Staff Award.

  • Dr. Fan Yang, Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering, was selected to be the recipient of the 2008 School of Engineering Junior Faculty Research Award.

  • Dr. Fan Yang was elevated to the status of Senior Member of the IEEE in March 2008.

  • Dr. Desmond Taylor has nominated Dr. John Daigle for a prestigious Erskine Visiting Fellowship in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand.

  • Dr. Atef Elsherbeni has been selected to be one of the technical Program Committee members for the 2009 International Microwave Symposium.

  • Dr. Fan Yang has been invited to submit a paper to the EUCAP 2009 conference related to his group research on reflectarrays.

  • Dr. Fan Yang and two professors from Tampere University of Technology, Finland have been invited to be the guest editors for a special issue of the ACES Journal related to RFID technology and applications.

  • Dr. Atef Elsherbeni, and Dr. Ozlem Kilic of The Catholic University of America have been invited to be the guest editors for a special issue of the ACES Journal entitled “Hardware Accelerated Computational Techniques for Electromagnetic Simulations of Complex Problems.”

  • Dr. Fan Yang has published a new book, Electromagnetic Band Gap Structures in Antenna Engineering (Cambridge University Press, October 2008). The book is co-authored by Prof. Yahya Rahmat-Samii of UCLA.

  • Dr. Fan Yang and Dr. Atef Elsherbeni received a three-year research contract from the NASA EPSCoR program. Their research is focused on reconfigurable antenna designs for planetary rovers.

  • Dr. Atef Elsherbeni has been appointed a one of four new FiDiPro (Finland Distinguished Professor Programme) professors funded by Tekes, the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation, to work on a project entitled “Applied Electromagnetic Systems for Advances on Future Wireless Electronics.” Dr. Elsherbeni will be hosted by Tampere University of Technology, Finland, and Prof. Lauri Sydänheimo for a portion of the project work.
