Born and raised in Miami, Florida, Lieutenant Gonzalez graduated from the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College with an Associates of Science Degree in Construction Management and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE) from the University of Mississippi. He attended Officer Candidate School and received his commission in October 1998.

At Sea, Lieutenant Gonzalez served with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion SEVEN with deployments to Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Panama, Bolivia and Japan from April 1989 to January 1993.

Ashore, Lieutenant Gonzalez served with the Public Works Department, Sigonella, Italy. While stationed there Equipment Operator Second Class (SCW) Gonzalez applied for and was selected to participate in the Civil Engineer Corps - Enlisted Commissioning Program FY96.

Lieutenant Gonzalez's first Commissioned Officer assignment was with the Engineering Field Activity Chesapeake (EFACHES) where he was the Assistant Resident Officer in Charge of Construction for the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) Headquarters Project. While at EFACHES he was responsible for the efficient management in the construction of over one million square feet of office space and an eight story Parking Garage. Lieutenant Gonzalez's next assignment was with the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA 00T) as the Pollution Prevention Program Manager. His many successful accomplishments include receiving the Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Environmental Award and the Commander, Naval Sea Systems Command, Environmental Excellence Award for FY 02. Lieutenant Gonzalez is currently serving with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion SEVEN for the second time, as a Company Officer.

Lieutenant Gonzalez's personal decorations include the Seabee Combat Warfare (SCW), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), Navy Unit Commendation, Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation (three awards), Navy "E" Ribbon (two awards), Navy Good Conduct Medal (two awards), National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal (two awards), Humanitarian Service Medal (two awards), Navy Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (four awards), Coast Guard Special Operations Service Ribbon, Kuwait Liberation Service Medal (Emirate of Kuwait), Navy Expert Rifle Medal and Navy Expert Pistol Medal.

Lieutenant Gonzalez is married to the former Angela Christine Styczenski of Gulfport, Mississippi. They have five children Amanda Lee, Amber Rose, Laura Virginia, Aaron Saul and Christina Maria.
