Chemical Engineering Curriculum

A Chemical Engineering Degree from Ole Miss requires a student to complete 128 credits composed of a 119 credit Common Foundation (defined below) plus 9 credits of technical electives of 300 level or higher (student-selected in the individualized emphasis and specified in the alternative emphasis areas). For the purpose of an emphasis, 8 credits of introductory biology (BISC 160-163) can count as one 3 credit technical elective. No more than 3 credits of research and development (R&D, ChE 330) will count towards graduation.

Compatibility with Engineering Science Core Content Requirement

The Engineering Science Core requirement of the School of Engineering states that, Student must take courses in six of the seven engineering topic areas. The Chemical Engineering common foundation specifies five topic area's (Thermodynamics, Transport, Adv. Eng. Math., Electric Circuits, and Materials). The student then chooses a sixth topic area from either Statics/Dynamics or Computer Science. The seventh course from an engineering topic area is satisfied by the ChE 307/308 series that is applied thermodynamics to multicomponent systems.

**Social Sciences, Humanities and Fine Arts

Students must complete 3 credit hours of fine arts (non-performing), 12 credits of liberal art course work, and 3 credits of "additional general education course work" as defined below for a total of 18 credits. The liberal art course work must include one sequential work in the humanities and one sequential work in the social/behavioral sciences. "Sequential work" is defined as two or more courses from the same department using the acceptable courses in the humanities and social/behavioral sciences as defined in the School of Engineering General Education requirements. One sequential work (either humanities or social/behavioral science) must contain a 300 or higher course number. If the student meets the fine art, humanity, and social/behavioral science work defined above in 15 credits then the final 3 credits of "additional general education course work" could be from any humanity, social/behavioral science, or the list of non-liberal art courses found in the "Three credits of additional general education course work" located in the School of Engineering General Education requirements with the exception that speech and math content courses may not be used to satisfy any of these required 18 credits of "additional general education course work."
